Florida Charges Ryan Routh in Trump Assassination Attempt
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has formally charged Ryan Routh in connection with an attempted assassination of former President and then-presidential candidate Donald J. Trump. The incident occurred on September 15, 2024, at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, where Routh allegedly made an attempt on Trump’s life.
Routh is facing multiple felony charges, including attempted first-degree murder and terrorism under Florida state law. According to officials, Routh acted alone and was apprehended at the scene after a swift response from the club’s security team and local law enforcement. No injuries were reported, though the attempt has sparked widespread concern over political violence during the 2024 election season.
Attorney General Uthmeier stated that the investigation initially faced significant delays due to a lack of cooperation from federal authorities under the prior administration. However, progress accelerated following leadership changes in the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice, which led to enhanced coordination between federal and state agencies.
“This was a clear and calculated act of political violence,” Uthmeier said during a press conference. “Florida will prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law to ensure justice is served and to send a clear message that political violence has no place in our state.”
Routh remains in custody without bond and is expected to appear in court later this month. The case continues to attract national attention as more details emerge surrounding the motive and planning behind the failed assassination attempt.
